More History

Timeline of Events:

Instead of writing a longer paragraph I decided to create a Timeline of Events that have occurred with the sport of volleyball.

So, I told you I would create a Timeline of Events, here’s the Timeline:

1900's-1922's

1900> a special ball was designed for the sport

1916> in the Philippines, an offensive style of passing the ball in high trajectory to be struck by another player (set and spike)

1917> the game was changed from 21 to 15 points

1920> three hits per side and back rules were instructed

1922> the first YMCA National Championships were held in Brooklyn, New York

1928-1947's

1928> the first U.S. open was staged as the field was opened to non-YMCA squads

1930> the first 2 man beach game was played

1934> National Volleyball refs were approved and known

1937> the A.A.U. Convention in Boston, action was recognized by the U.S. Volleyball Association as the official National governing body of U.S.

1947> the F.I.V.B. was formed

1948-1983's

1948> the 1st 2 men beach tournament was held

1949> the Intel World Champions were held

1964> Volleyball was introduced to the Olympic Games in Tokyo

1983> the A.V.P. was formed

1986-1996's

1986> the W.P.V.A. was formed

1988> the U.S. men represented gold in the Olympics in Japan

1990> the World League was created

1995> the sport had its 100 anniversary

1996> 2 person beach volleyball became a Olympic sport
