Volleyball History

The game of volleyball, originally called “mintonette” was invented by William G. Morgan in 1895. William a graduate from Spring Field College of the Y.M.C.A. , designed the game to be a combination of basketball, baseball, tennis and handball.The offensive style of setting and spiking was 1st demonstrated in the Philippines in 1916. In the few years after that, it was clear that the sport would need rules for tournament play. Soon after, there was a new association called the U.S.V.B.A. which was formed in 1928.
